My greatest achivement of this trip is probably visiting the place during arrival of the migrantory birds and experiencing an amazing visual “bird hunting”!
Ninh Binh is essentially famous in the 2 specialties, they are rice crust and milk goat. But naturally I was barely scraped all of my pocket to go, not enough to spend so I asked for…fried rice with beef and sour vegetable.
The day after, I caught a bus to Phat Diem Cathedral . The famous rocky church was accomplished from 1989, was considered as“Vietnamese Catholic capital city”. Phat Diem (Phát Diệm) is the biggest rocky church that carried the extremely unique architecture of the Vietnamese traditional and the West.
I was here with my family since I was 7, and at this time roughly 17 years later, I came back to this place.
On the bus, I talked to the lady who sat on the same seat with me and asked her to remind me when the way to Phat Diem Cathedral is getting closer so I could prepare to get out. Knew that I was on the way to Phat Diem, she suggested that there were 2 more to visit as her opinion. She said they were located in a line from this road, on the surface of the road, so I decided to visit them on the way back.
Stood in front of the Square, between 2 statues made me remembered my memories in the olden time. Now I am adult, back to this place, a confidence lady, now I could decide on my own to locate myself in any place I want to go.
Remembered at that time there was no selfie-stick, so when I went on asolo travel, I just hanged up the camera to take photo of the… heavy big face. So, another travelers, the motorbike taxi driver, the lady staff, the passed by and even the executing worker was all the unwilling photographer. I asked for those people to take photos for me everywhere and every time! For this reason, I was still getting a lot of beautiful photos though I wassolo traveling!
In the normal days, the church is quite deserted, decent and dignified. I took a walk in the campus with the peaceful feeling so I was so excited! I am not the Catholic, so visiting the Church by willing to contemplate their architecture, reality witness their cultural feature, and recall the history. Years ago, Phat Diem rocky church traveled with the local to experience war, and marked into the celebrated a chapter in history…
On the way back, I went to Ton Dao (Tôn Đạo) and Phuc Nhac (Phúc Nhạc) church. This is the Catholic land, the churches were so beautiful and you should visit if had time.
Went out by the public vehicle, specific as passenger bus, bus has the advantage is cheap price, but the weak point is you had to use the time to make up for another things. At noon – 12 p.m, I stood there waiting for the bus in an hour under the baking sun. An hour like that, I talked to 2 mates that waiting as me, the lady seller, with the local. In reality it was so much fun, no boring and no time wasted but actually burnt your energy so this case required you to be enduring. To save money, I went on foot about 1-2 km to the bus stop instead of catching a taxi or motorbike driver.

Back to hotel, I placed things, make preparation to bring to reception and checked out and then committed things. I went to Van Long lagoon, the chosen place to record the imposing fighting division scene between King Kong and the Monster.
Before getting famous with King Kong, Van Long lagoon was unpopular, the visitor also thinly populated. Perhaps this caused the neglected framework with the superb chain of rocky mountains and the boundless lagoons area. This is also the “good land” that was loved by the variety of bird, they chose it to reside temporary.
The ticket price for boating in Van Long is 2-3 USD/person. Still feasting our eyes to the mountain on the boat, enjoy the bird but the Van Long boat was the timber one, not the metal as Trang An, Thung Nang… The boatman who row and steer for me is old, he is really thin but he used a long pole for strongly shoving the boat definitively. When I asked him to let me try to do the same, I realized that this action need a lot of energy and difficulty!
Now the ticket included theBeautiful Site ticket 1 USD/visitor and Boat ticket 3 USD/ boat/ 2 visitors.
Sitting on the boat, he showed me the cane-brake, and some perching bird there.
– There are pelicans, those are teals, girl!
– See, they are catching fishes.
He was talking passionately about the bird and told me to feel secure, 4.10 p.m the bird will come here, you can contemplate them to your heart’s content!
Van Long (Vân Long) is also the house for chamois, langurs,Stump-tailed macaque… He said, today the weather is less sunshine so the money didn’t go out, normally, they often go out to be playful! So that day I have no charm with the langurs!
The Van Long ecosystem is very wonderful, but what a pity no camera or recorder could save complete the whole beauty! And I was sitting here, writing these had the same palpitating about the way to describe the fascinating first-class streak. Alone in common of the stream, the huge sky and ground, the plopping falling rocky sound was cleared. This time the whole lagoon just had 3-4 visitor boats, everyone just make the most of natural air, let the eyes “swallowing” the whole sight.
The first flock of birds came, every flock, every small group. Far away from here can realized variety of bird, variety of different kinds. So a day ended up after their time flying hard to search for food or just a temporary stop stage of the endless migration.
Ashore, I saw the foreign oldies hanged up the modern camera, re-enter their long “gun”, continuously twinkle.
The closing of my interesting trip, I was on the ashore but still attached to the lagoons. Once more, the blushing sun is going down on Ninh Binh land and I had to go to the last venue to “welcome” the bird.
Till this time, I am still wondered about the reason why the birds make me felt so ardently! At that moment, I just thought, that would be shame if I didn’t see the flying bird with my own eyes! Though at first, I didn’t know whether it was the trip that the flying bird that went back from everywhere or not, as the predestination!
According to my plan, I got in the bus for getting back to Hanoi at 5 p.m, but I decided to stand back the time to 7 p.m. The hotel male staff confirmed that there are still a lot of difference province buses which passed by to go back to Hanoi at 7 p.m.

The motorbike taxi take me to the rearwards of the Bich Dong pagoda, where the cane-brake sprouted over our head. This time the sky was at nightfall, the flocks came back a lot, the 4 directions you can hear the resounded rustling voice. The white wings knitting to each other from the separate area became bigger and bigger and swooped down progressively. I continuously twinkling, but the scene is moving, and the nightfall has come so the quality of the photos was so bad, the sharpness was out. Anyway I was unable to take pictures, I turned to make the most of them by my naked eyes!
The traveling experiences, see more, I see them clearly, a lot of people like hanging out the camera to take photos but in fact no one spent their time or pay attention to reconsider! The recorded clip just for Facebook posting but the whole life but it will soon momentarily. Instead of that, let your eyes “come in” for and pin it into your long-term memories is better!
Unexpectedly the barking dog voice or the truck one passed by honking so the bird flied up again dying the sky with their white wings, extremely beautiful. The motorbike taxi driver said, just stamped your feet a few times so the bird will fly immediately!
Said to be done, he stamped his feet down, some flocks flied up, soaring around on the head and then perching again! It was deserving of staying in Ninh Binh at this time, 2 afternoons contemplated the flying bird was a blast! However you had to be careful that this place is the liquid country area so there were a lot of mosquitos and pest. Everyone that carry out the sensitive skin had better to smear the insect repellent cream before going out!

We went back when the dark covered the sky. Though catching the late trip to go back to Hanoi but the bus just took around 2 hours, compared to 3.5 hours for the arriving one, so I was back late but calculate for this is not that late!
This trip, I spent 1.3 million (about 60$). This is the fee for “romping” alone. If you went out in a group of 2-3 persons so it may be cheaper, cos the hotel fee can be divided into 2-3 person/ room.
This trip, I haven’t visited Cuc Phuong cos the weather was so moist. Sure I will come back to Ninh Binh more cos this place carry the “national spirit”, the more I visit Ninh Binh, the more I love it!
